Install Mac OS X 10.10 in VMware Workstation 11

This blog post is for education purpose only. After installation make sure you delete the VM as it is against Apple Agreement to install MAC OS X on  non Apple Hardware. I just wanted to figure out if it was possible and how to do this

Unfortunally I have no images yet. I forgot to take screenshots

What do we need

  1. Download the Mavericks 10.9.2 Untouched.iso (any torrent site will do)
  2. VMware Workstation 11
  3. Download the Unlocker for Workstation 11

After we have installed VMware workstation 11 we need run the unlocker in admin mode. Unpack the file and run win-install.cmd with admin rights (right mouse  click and run as administrator).

Now boot up VMware workstation 11 and create a new VM. As you can see we can now select a MAC OS version from the list. Select MAC OS X 10.10

I have A intel I7 processor. Sometimes you get allot of errors when booting up the MAC OS. You can avoid this by editing the vmx file of the virtual machine. Go to the directory where the VM is stored and open up the .vmx file with notepad

Add these 2 lines to the end of the file

cpuid.1.eax = “0000:0000:0000:0001:0000:0110:1010:0101”
smc.version = “0”

Now boot it up and install the operating system. it will take a while. After everything has been installed just update the opreating system to 10.10 trough the appstore. If for some reason the operating system is not responding correctly then install the vmware tools. Just put in the darwin.iso. It is also located in the unlocker file
