I have just installed windows 8 on my computer with the Hyper-V feature. Created a virtual switch and setup a new virtual machine
Downloaded the windows server 2012R2 evaluations disk (ISO) and connected it to the new virtual machine. Booted up the virtual machine. It boots from the ISO disk. The installation start and then I got this error
Re-downloaded the disk and still got that error. De-installed Hyper-V and installed VMware Workstation 10. Created a new virtual machine attached the ISO and booted up the machine in VMware workstation 10. I got the same error.
I did a lot of googling to solve this issue. The weirdest thing is in both Hypervisors the solution is very different.
For VMware workstation 10
Create the virtual machine. But select will install OS later. Then once the virtual machine is created you go into the settings and attached the ISO and boot up the virtual machine
The solution for this one was hard to find. windows server need at least 512MB to boot. So when created the VM I created it with 512MB to use and then I selected use dynamic memory. What means that if it needs more memory it can grab it if there is any left. But here is the trick. The OS needs to be installed first to use Dynamic memory and windows server 2012 needs 576 memory to install it on a VM.
So I put the minimum memory on 576 and selected to use dynamic memory. Booted up the VM and everything worked
